Cherry Coatings Border Fence Contract
Cherry Coatings is the main contractor for this border fence coating work and employs every painter and helper on the contract. Hawk Premier Painting serves as a referring contractor, connecting qualified people with Cherry Coatings; Hawk does not employ, supervise, or perform the border fence work. Near Antelope Wells in the New Mexico Bootheel, Cherry Coatings crews apply protective industrial coatings to the 30-foot steel bollard fence in demanding high-desert conditions.

An industrial coating system engineered to last.
The overview below describes the coating work performed under Cherry Coatings' contract. Cherry Coatings manages project execution, employment, supervision, scheduling, and site safety.
Assessment & Site Containment
Every span of steel is inspected for rust, mill scale, and failed coating. Crews establish containment to protect the surrounding desert environment and control overspray before a drop of coating is applied.
Surface Preparation & Abrasive Blasting
The single most important step. Crews strip away oil, grease, dust, rust, and old coating using solvent cleaning and abrasive blasting to bare steel, meeting SSPC/NACE standards up to a Near-White Blast (SP-10). Blasting leaves a controlled 1.5–2.5 mil profile so the coating grips and holds.
Corrosion-Inhibiting Primer
A zinc-rich primer delivers galvanic, sacrificial protection — the zinc corrodes first so the structural steel does not. This is what stops rust before it can ever start in a punishing desert climate.
Epoxy Build Coat
A high-build epoxy intermediate coat adds film thickness and chemical resistance, sealing the surface into one continuous, durable barrier with no thin spots, pinholes, or gaps.
UV-Resistant Top Coat
A pigmented polyurethane finish locks in the color and shields the system from relentless UV, extreme heat, and wind-driven abrasives — a matte finish engineered to resist fading for years.
Inspection & Quality Assurance
Quality teams verify dry-film thickness, check continuity across every weld and edge, and confirm adhesion. Corners and edges are touched up by hand — because that is where coatings fail first.
Coating systems and standards referenced reflect established industrial practice (SSPC/NACE surface-preparation grades and zinc-rich primer, epoxy, and polyurethane systems). Specifications are tailored to each project's engineering requirements.
